Kindergarten Program

The Vanderbilt Charter Academy elementary school kindergarten program includes:

• Open Court Reading — Focuses on giving students a strong foundation in phonemic awareness
• Handwriting without Tears — Teaches handwriting so that all children can learn to write legibly and efficiently
• Addison Wesley Math — Concepts explored include sorting, position, graphing, patterns, counting and numbers, measurement, time and money, shapes, additional and subtraction. Children will learn in whole groups, small groups and practice in student group teams.
• Science — Includes lessons in five senses, seasons and weather, the human body, plants, animals, taking care of the earth, magnets and others
• Social Studies — Christopher Columbus, Native Americans, Early Exploration and Settlement, Pilgrims, Presidents, Geography, including the Seven Continents

In addition to our curriculum, each child will participate once weekly in each of the following specials:
• Physical Education
• Library
• Spanish
• Computers
• Music

8:00 am- 3:15 pm
