I love my job because:
- I have the privilege of making a difference in the lives of my students
- I love watching them grow academically and socially from the beginning of the year to the end
- I feel important and valued when I'm the one they turn to for advice
- I love it when my students seem to know more than I do some days :-)
- I enjoy getting to know them - what they do for fun, what they do/don't like about school, and so much more than I would expect sometimes
- Getting respect is just as important as giving it
- Having fun is as important to me just as much as it is to my students
- I get to teach them how to be responsible for their own actions
- Helping them follow their dreams and watching them reach their goals is just as rewarding for me as it is for my students
- I feel the struggles they feel, and I rejoice with them when they finally attain what they're after
- I have realized that we as teachers only have a short time to impact our students, so pack each day with as much enthusiasm as you can muster

I have had the privilege of working at Vanderbilt Academy off and on for 10 years in several different capacities. I can honestly say that I am constantly impressed by the dedication and commitment of the staff and administration. I find that the teachers are completely focused on giving their students the best education possible while caring for the child as a person as well. There is a feeling of unity among the staff and parents and a great deal of effort into striving to make communication as easy and comfortable as possible. Administration seeks to be available and open to both teachers and parents while providing a secure environment for all students. All in all, Vanderbilt Charter Academy is a great place to get a great education!

Parents and friends of mine have asked me if I would go work for the "traditional" public school. I let them know that I am SOOO happy with my position. I feel NHA supports the arts by allowing me to stay in one building each day without having to travel to several schools. This allows me to better integrate my lessons with the core curricular areas while spending more time with my students, I really get to know them. I also love the diversity of our school population. I learn something everyday from my students!
